Where Do I Begin?
Adults
As we have previously mentioned, you do not need prior martial arts or fitness backgrounds to start at Spartan. Nor do you need to be in top physical shape to do our classes. All of our group classes are perfect for total beginners. It's still a pretty daunting task to pick a first class.
In this section, we will try to de-mystify things for you by breaking down some of our classes and providing insight on the instructors that teach those classes.
If you've never done Krav Maga or Combat Fitness before, it can be a daunting task to pick which class to try. here are a couple of classes to consider starting with:
-
Krav Maga Elements on Saturdays at 9am with Cyrus Osena - This class will cycle through the Spartan Fundamental Curriculum in its entirety. As many are aware, it's all about the basics - ALL advanced techniques that you will learn in classes are simply a series of fundamental elements (footwork, movement and striking) strung together and performed seamlessly and deliberately at full force. This is a great class for Beginners and Advanced students alike to master the fundamentals in.
-
Krav Maga on Wednesday evenings at 7pm with Michelle Jeck - This is a great class to start with! Michelle is quite methodical in her teaching demeanor and has a great way of connecting with new students. You will progress pretty quickly through the class that you get an awesome class experience.
-
Krav Maga on Saturday mornings at 10am with Cyrus Osena - This class will be a bit more fast-paced, intense, but is taught in a manner that is perfect for total beginners. Cyrus is our Lead Instructor and can take you from a total novice to effectively navigating advanced techniques in no time!
-
KRAVfit on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at NOON and Mondays at 6:30pm with Amelia Sher - KRAVfit is our flagship combat fitness platform. It is essentially a Krav Maga without the bone-jarring contact. Punch and kick your way into the best shape of your life with this unique Combat Fitness experience. The entire class is one big HIIT session. Amelia is an awesome instructor.
If you are an old pro with previous experience from a different school or martial art, and/or are in pretty good physical shape and conditioning, here are a couple of classes we think you'll love:
-
Krav Maga on Thursday evenings at 7pm with Doug Laing - Doug reaches deep into his field experience to provide an awesome class experience, often combining more advanced Kapap protocols with traditional Krav Maga techniques. This is a good class for beginners, and an even better class for those looking to step it up to the next level.
-
Krav Maga on Saturday mornings at 10am with Cyrus Osena - See above.
-
Metabolic Conditioning on Saturday mornings at 8am with Cyrus Osena and on Wednesdays at 6:30pm with Amelia Sher - Exclusive to Spartan Krav Maga, the MetCon classes use a variety of equipment such as Bulgarian bags, kettlebells, dumbells and battle ropes to develop strength, speed, agility, explosive power and muscular endurance leading to peak physical conditioning. These classes are fast and intense and are awesome compliments to Krav Maga training.
