Frequently Asked Questions

Some of the Questions We Are Asked About This Course..

1. What is “From the Ground Up”?

Answer: It’s a 6-week, high-impact anti-bullying and ground defense course designed for kids ages 8–13. The program focuses on real-world self-defense skills - specifically what to do if a child is taken to the ground in a bullying or self-defense situation.

2. Is this a jiu-jitsu class?

Answer: No. While it includes elements of grappling and wrestling, From the Ground Up teaches practical, real-world self-defense, not sport-based jiu-jitsu. The focus is on Krav Maga, specifically on close-quarters combat (CQB) principles - how to stay safe, defend, and get back to your feet quickly in realistic scenarios.

3. What is Krav Maga, and how is it different from other martial arts?
Answer: Krav Maga is a practical and effective self-defense system developed by the Israeli military. Unlike traditional martial arts, it focuses on real-world scenarios and emphasizes quick, instinctive responses to threats. There are no formal katas or rituals, and techniques are designed to be simple, efficient, and adaptable to any situation.
